How to write better essays

10/2/2019

'How to Write Better Essays' is a five-part video series by Tim Squirrell, a PhD student (at time of writing) at the University of Edinburgh, and former president of the Cambridge Union Society.  The videos are based on a blog post, published in February 2017, entitled 'How to Write Undergraduate Essays', which achieved some notoriety due to its mention in a Guardian article in March. It is aimed at providing basic tips for students at undergraduate level who want to learn to write better essays. It covers how to read for an essay, how to answer a question properly, how to structure essays, how to analyse arguments, and how to use evidence.
